Foxwoods Casino Connecticut Age Limit
Foxwoods Resort Casino in Connecticut had dedicated a floor exclusively for gamblers 55 and older on Friday, in an effort to attract bettors during the coronavirus pandemic.
- Foxwoods Resort Casino is going to try a new tactic to attract certain gamblers. The property in Mashantucket, Connecticut is creating a gambling area specifically for the 55-and-over crowd.
- From June 1 when the casinos reopened after shutting in mid-March due to the pandemic through Sept. 30, Foxwoods posted $121.4 million in slot revenue, down 18% from the same period in 2019.
The new floor, in the Rainmaker Casino at Foxwoods, will be sanitized regularly and gamblers will be socially distanced while surrounded by an all older crowd, mimicking the senior hours a lot of supermarkets have adopted during the pandemic.
Foxwoods Resort Casino features deluxe accommodations, fine dining, a wide variety of entertainment attractions and shopping. Guests traveling to Foxwoods from states listed in State of Connecticut’s Regional Travel Advisory (with the exception of bordering states) are welcome to stay up to 24 hours or one night. Additionally, we’re pleased to share that those that have a negative COVID test 72 hours prior to arrival are welcome to stay more than one night.
The floor will be open from 10 a.m. to midnight every weekend in November and will feature a DJ spinning 80s music at night, complimentary cocktails (think: kamikazes), and giveaways with 80s-themed prizes like Rubik’s cubes, leg warmers, and fanny packs.

“The safety of our loyal patrons has been our number one priority since reopening... and we are excited to offer them this exclusive experience where they can relax and play in a safe, frequently sanitized environment,” Jason Guyot, Foxwoods’ Interim CEO & SVP of resort operations, said in a statement provided to Travel + Leisure.
Foxwoods Resort Casino reopened in June with capacity limits, temperature checks, and the mandatory wearing of face masks. And while allowed to open, the casino has been forced to draw customers from in and around the state as Connecticut has travel restrictions in place, but exempts New York, New Jersey, and Rhode Island. Many other out-of-state travelers are required to either self-quarantine for 14 days upon arrival or arrive with a negative COVID-19 RT-PCR test within 72 hours.

The decision to limit the Foxwoods floor to older adults also comes as gambling capital Las Vegas has continued to struggle during the pandemic with a growing list of Las Vegas Strip hotels turning to midweek closures to survive.

MASHANTUCKET, CT – October 2, 2020 – In response to the increased COVID-19 infection rate across eastern Connecticut, Foxwoods Resort Casino today announced that it will continue to operate at 25 percent capacity, as it has since reopening in June. The resort maintaining its current capacity limit is also directly related to the successful safety track record Foxwoods has seen from its existing operating plan.
“Governor Lamont is doing a fantastic job keeping Connecticut safe and swiftly addressing hots spots as they flare up, and we applaud his strong leadership during this crisis,” said Jason Guyot, Foxwoods’ Interim CEO. He continued, “As the state cautiously continues to reopen under the phase 3 guidelines issued by the Governor, we believe it is in the best interest of our team members, guests, Tribal members and communities to maintain our current 25% capacity threshold given the recent uptick of COVID-19 cases in our region. Since reopening, we’ve been vigilant in adhering to our aggressive health protocols to control the spread of the virus and to ensure the resort is a safe destination for everyone who walks through our doors. Our standards meet or exceed the state’s requirements, which we constantly review and update regularly, balancing emerging science with the current situation in Connecticut. Ensuring our guests and the public feel safe – and are confident in our protocols – at Foxwoods is our number one priority.”
Under the guidance of Dr. Setu Vora, the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation’s Chief Medical Officer, Foxwoods has established extensive protocols including mandatory masks, temperature checks, team member wellness checks and 24/7 sanitation of the resort. Foxwoods is also currently finalizing ways to provide regular testing for the workforce in the coming weeks.
Highlights of Foxwoods’ safety measures include, but are not limited to, the following:
- 100 percent universal masking
- Social distancing
- Fresh air ventilation system optimization
- Easy access to hand sanitizers and enhanced cleaning
- Team member training
- Mandatory temperature checks for all people entering the property
- Imposed travel restrictions similar to state mandates

The new protocols have allowed Foxwoods to identify, quarantine and support a limited number of positive team member cases since June. All cases were categorized as community-acquired with no secondary transmission in the workplace.
Any team member who tests positive is required to quarantine for 14 days, along with any other individuals in which they may have come in contact. In partnership with United Community & Family Services, the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation (MPTN) has conducted a mass community-based testing event and a second is tentatively scheduled for next week. The Tribe also encourages all team member and their households to utilize the testing facilities offered by the state this weekend.
