The European Poker Tour event in Barcelona was a wonderful event, and the newly implemented structure allowed for much deeper play, which obviously favored more skilled players.
The starting field in the tournament was outstanding, with poker pros like Bertrand “ElkY” Grospellier, Thierry van den Berg, Noah Boeken, Roland de Wolfe and many others looking to win the $1.2 million 1st prize.

Two PokerStars qualifiers made it to the final table. Canadian player Matt Lapossie looked very strong in the tournament, and he kept the chip lead during several levels in the tourney. US player Carter Phillips worked his game up and took the chip lead by level twenty four. From then on he dominated the tables and showed that his poker skills have improved, and will only get better as the years pass by.
Carter Phillips started playing poker full time only ten months ago, and his biggest cash prior to this win was $48K for taking down the PokerStars Sunday Second Chance tourney back in December 2008. His performance against Marc Goodwin, a poker veteran who has been playing poker for more than 19 years, was an extremely impressive feat. The heads-up match ended shortly after their dinner break was over.
Phillips was speechless after his great performance at EPT Barcelona. Congrats Carter!
